Backyard Gardens CSA: Week 6 — July 11, 2013

Greetings CSA members.

It has been a good work week here at BYG.  Although the weather has been encouraging weeds to grow, our diligence and aggressive weed picking team of apprentices have been a blessing.  My name is Gregory, I have been here for a month and I am enjoying working alongside the current crew members.  Harvesting beautiful produce that I am quite proud to be able to work with.

Competitions have begun for hunting small underground creatures to protect your produce.  Steve and I are at four a piece, while Nessa found one belly up.  What can I say, she is magical, and she will be missed, even by me.  Having the opportunity to experience once again how a CSA farm is run is exactly what brought me here.  It’s an honor to work with Beth.  I’d like to thank her publicly for offering me this position.  The chance to see a hoop house built from the ground up is also exciting.  It isn’t easy being so giddy.  Being a farmer sure does remind me of how patience is a gift.  May we all practice that virtue during this waiting period for tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and peppers.  In the meanwhile enjoy our share boxes filled with the currently harvested items.  It’s been a pleasure entering in my first blog post, with a lot of help from Liz.  Thanks Liz.
